One of the first events ever held in the Winspear Centre was the recording session for this recording. The hall hadn't opened when the recording was made in early 1997 - and there weren't even seats in the hall!
With Electra Rising, Malcolm Forsyth fulfilled a long-held ambition - to write a concerto for his daughter, cellist Amanda Forsyth. The other concerto united two colleagues of the University of Alberta's Department of Music - its Composer in Residence Malcolm Forsyth, and saxophone professor and virtuoso William Street.
