So waaaaay back in May 2008 this blog started out featuring posts by our then-publicist Melayne
writing from France. Bill Eddins was conducting Gershwin's Porgy & Bess and Melayne was tasked with communicating the trials and tribulations of the opening back to us at home.
It so happens that Bill is back in France for the revival, as well as performances at the
Edinburgh International Festival. (If you were paying attention to our Spring Raffle, the grand prize was a trip to Scotland to see this production.) Now, I don't get to go to France, or Scotland (do I?) but you can get the behind the scenes look over at Bill's blog
Sticks and Drones. Things are never simple with opera, though - even the second time around:
“Dear God: Could we please get through Day 1 of our revival of Porgy & Bess without some major disaster? I’d really appreciate it. Thanks.” That’s what I was hoping for on my way over to Opera Lyon. Of course, there’s that great expression – “Man plans, God laughs.”
