It has been some time since the last blog post, but you may notice that we have a
new website, and we're now hosting the
blog on the site, rather than on the external blog page. If you subscribe to the blog, you may have noticed old postings reappearing in your feed, a result of transferring over to our new home. I'm looking forward to writing more posts, and I'm going to re-start with a follow-up to a
post from October, about Peter Gabriel's album
Scratch My Back - a completely orchestral and vocal album covering other artists' works.
Somehow I missed the release of this back in February, so I finally gave it a listen today. I'm not going to give a full album review, as there are
many out there already, but I will say that it's always interesting to see how pop/rock musicians use the orchestral idiom, and I appreciate that this album goes there fully - no relying on drums or guitars. The mixed reviews from Peter Gabriel fans seem to say that this is actually a detriment, but perhaps that's more a reflection of expectations than anything.
Unfortunately, many of the artists Gabriel covers in the album
have not yet returned the favour, which was the intended consequence.
