2010 marks Chopin's 200th birthday, and there are a number of events worldwide celebrating the occasion. In Edmonton the Polish Culture Society is presenting or sponsoring a number of events, and I noticed an interesting pairing of performers for events on Sunday and Monday.
Pianist Jan Lisiecki and cellist David Eggert will be performing at a fundraising gala at the Winspear on Sunday, May 9 and at a concert at Muttart Hall on Monday evening (couldn't find a whole lot of info on the latter, but both events are listed on the Chopin 2010 website).
It just so happens that both of these young artists appear with the ESO next season on the Sunday Showcase series. Below is the first part of a story that was on CBC's The National about Jan, who's already performed all over the world by the age of 15:
