2009 Esso Symphony for Kids

Your kids will have a great time at these interactive orchestral matinées - they won't even know that they're learning about music! Every concert features the full orchestra and is best enjoyed by children aged 5 - 12. All concerts run approximately 1 hour without an intermission.

Pre-concert Activities from 1 - 1:45 PM

Come early to take part in the Play & Learn activities starting at 1 pm in the main lobby. The pre-concert events are tailored to fit the theme of the concert and are sure to enrich the afternoon for your entire family.

  • Spooktacular!
  • Just before the kids go trick or treating, we’ve got musical tricks and treats! Bruce Hangen and the ESO provide a thrill ride of spooky, creepy fun. Dress up in your Halloween costume, and haunt the concert hall with us.

  • A Celtic Adventure
  • Bring the wee lads and lasses and spend an afternoon enjoying music from the Celts. Bill Eddins, who has conducted many concerts with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, leads this exciting spectacle.

  • The Mysterious Maestro
  • A bewitching concert story about a little girl who loves to sing, who moves to a town where music is forbidden. Adapted by DANDI Productions from the 2003 Governor-General's Award-nominated book The Maestro, this enchanting story combines original music with works by Verdi, Mendelssohn and more.

  • Mozart, Boy Genius
  • The inspiring story of young Wolfgang Amadé Mozart, his life, and his music, told by his proud yet demanding father, Leopold Mozart. Mozart's music is brought to life with his stories, characters, and many of his most famous classical works including The Magic Flute and Don Giovanni.
