Concert blends classical with just plain classic
Over 100 voices add an elaborate musicality to traditional holiday favourites

A Lightly Classical Christmas

Have yourself a merry little Christmas in two evenings devoted to the beloved classical and traditional music of the season. Rising American conducting star Stuart Chafetz makes his ESO debut, leading Canadian bass-baritone Nathan Berg, the magical voices of over 100 Richard Eaton Singers and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.

Resident Conductor of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Stuart Chafetz brings his rich holiday sentimentality and engaging personality to the Winspear for exquisite orchestral arrangements and grand choral masterpieces.

Lending his “first-class voice” (The Boston Globe), one of the most in-demand bass-baritones of his generation Nathan Berg will enchant the audience with his internationally acclaimed musicality and artistry.  Performing traditional favourites including You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch, The Most Wonderful Time of the Year and What Child Is This?, Berg will also join forces with RES for pieces including Silent Night, Joy to the World and a stirring rendition of O Holy Night.

Edmonton’s symphonic choir, RES, plays a lead role in the cultural community of the city. For 60 years, the choir has partnered with the ESO, including performing Mahler’s Symphony of a Thousand to commemorate the opening of the Winspear Centre. RES will perform holiday favourites, such as Hark! The Herald Angels Sing and three excerpts from the hit film Home Alone.

The ESO acknowledges the generous support of the Lighter Classics series sponsor Bill and Mary Jo Robbins and the Christmas at the Winspear sponsors chemco and MAMMOET.

For tickets or more information, call the Winspear Centre Box Office at (780) 428-1414, toll-free 1-800-563-5081 or purchase online.

The ESO wishes all Edmontonians health and happiness this holiday season.
