Story time and sing-alongs with Santa Claus and Mr. Grinch
A Family Christmas Concert
On a cold and wintry afternoon, warm up the whole family to the cheerful sounds of seasonal favourites performed by your Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. Edmonton-based actor John Ullyatt appears as special guest in the ESO’s final concerts of 2010, bringing the scheming Mr. Grinch to life. Despite his best efforts to ruin Christmas, Mr. Grinch gets a musical dose of the true spirit of the holiday season through the lovely sounds of the Cantilon Chamber Choir and a surprise visit by Santa Claus himself! Enbridge Resident Conductor Lucas Waldin conducts these two festive matinée performances at the Francis Winspear Centre for Music.
As cuddly as a cactus, as charming as an eel, and with a heart “two sizes too small”, John Ullyatt performs You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch - originally written and composed for the 1966 cartoon special How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Families will need to help Mr. Grinch open up his heart to the joy of the holiday season by singing along with the Cantilon Chamber Choir as they perform medleys of Yuletide hits including Sing We Now of Christmas and A Jingly Sing-Along. Selections from family favourites The Nutcracker Suite and The Polar Express, plus traditional carols like We Wish You A Merry Christmas, Good King Wenceslas, and Santa Claus is Coming to Town complete the intermission-free concert program.
All adult tickets are $30; all child tickets are $15 (agency fees apply). Call the Winspear Centre Box Office at (780) 428-1414, toll-free 1-800-563-5081, or purchase online
The Winspear Centre is collecting non-perishable food items for Edmonton’s Food Bank at concerts throughout the month of December.
