Free Summer Music at the Winspear Centre

Three concert events offer a musical taste of what is to come in the new season

This month, your Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, in collaboration with Winspear Presents, invites you to step out of the heat and into our cool concert hall for some free summer concerts at the Francis Winspear Centre for Music! To help kick off our exciting 2010-2011 performance season, select members of your ESO perform their favourite pieces in a showcase event, conductor Jacques Lacombe leads the National Youth Orchestra of Canada (NYOC) through an exciting program showcasing the talent of some of Canada’s finest young musicians, and Edmonton’s own Duo Majoya perform brilliant organ duets in conjunction with the launch of their new album.

Monday, August 9th, 2010 at 12:00 noon

Members of the ESO and friends will share their favourite pieces in this special summer showcase event, hosted by D.T. Baker and featuring Onyx String Quartet, Piazzola Trio, Bonnie Yeager, and Sarah Ho.

Seating is general admission, subject to availability. Lobby doors open at 11:30 am.

Every year, the most talented members of youth orchestras across the country are selected to be part of the NYOC. This year, celebrating 50 years, Jacques Lacombe and the orchestra present a wonderful summer night of music in a program that includes Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, Strauss’ Don Juan, Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, and the premiere of Perpetual Summer, a commissioned work by Kati Agócs.

Seating is general admission, subject to availability.  Lobby doors open at 7:00 pm.

0 # Kirk Glaicar 2011-08-21 13:30 I am disabled and was hoping that I could attend August the 23rd. If the concert was sold out so be it, but if not I would be able to attend?
Reason is I cannot gurantee that I will be able to until that day as lately I go day by day.
I was hoping this would not cause any difficulties.
I Thank-You in advance for addressing my request and look forward to your reply.
