Symphony 101

Symphony 101 offers an introduction to ESO programs this season

What’s the difference between a symphony and a concerto?

When do I clap?

Why is everything in Italian?

Hey, even Yo-Yo Ma asked those questions once upon a time. The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra is pleased to offer Symphony 101. It’s designed for those who wish to enhance their symphony-going experience, just by understanding what it’s all about.

Hosted by ESO Music Resource D.T. Baker, Symphony 101 goes back to the basics. In a lively and fun session, get some background as to what all that information on a symphony program actually means. Bach was Baroque, and Berlioz a Romantic – so what? This is your chance to find out. With musical excerpts from the ESO’s 2011/2012 season, Symphony 101 will be interactive as well as informative. Feel free to ask the questions you might have been too shy to ask before.
