2009 Robbins Pops

2009 Robbins Pops

The Robbins Pops series is all about entertainment. Whether reliving the great tunes of the 70s, thrilling at choral masterpieces, celebrating the holiday season – the Pops has Broadway, gypsy fireworks, and Halloween thrills. The best Pops conductors in the business put the ESO front and centre at all our Robbins Pops shows.

Thank you to the supporters of this series: Bill & Mary Jo Robbins

  • A Very Merry Pops
  • The ESO’s annual holiday pops show is always one of the most-anticipated performances of the season. This year, we’ve combined the talents of two performers who have lit up ESO stages on their own into a dynamite combination of talent, charisma and great musicianship. Edmonton’s own Tyler Hamilton lends his lustrous baritone to some of the season’s favourite songs. Steven Reineke returns to the Robbins Pops stage to conduct our yearly potpourri of carols, light classics and singalongs.

  • The Roby Lakatos Ensemble
  • Roby Lakatos has taken the passionate, hot-blooded tradition of gypsy music, and made it into a dazzling showcase of musical fireworks and virtuoso showmanship. Roby Lakatos is referred to as a gypsy violinist or “devil’s fiddler.” a classical virtuoso, a jazz improviser, a composer and arranger, and a 19th-century throwback, and he is actually all of these things at once. Bill Eddins conducts this unforgettable night of pops with a gypsy twist – an Eastern European feast for the eyes as well as the ears.

  • A Chorus of Hits
  • Pops master Jack Everly joins the ESO and the Richard Eaton Singers for a night of some of the best-loved and most famous works for chorus and orchestra. We’ve got some of the great choral treats from classics and opera – the Hallelujah Chorus, O Fortuna, the Humming Chorus. But we won’t overlook some of Broadway’s best – With a Song in My Heart, Sunrise, Sunset, and One Day More. And there are plenty more where those came from – or are we preaching to the choir?
