Let Your Music Shine! with Lisa & Linda

Bring your little ones for a show that is just right for them! This concert is one hour long, without intermission. Let's all go to the 3-ring musical circus! Filled with magic, movement and classic miniatures. Lisa and Linda, along with special instrumental guests, create a magical musical experience which educates, entertains, and inspires the entire family. This performance does not feature the ESO.

Teddy Bear Picnic after Matinee

Teddy Bear fun for your little ones! Enjoy games, face painters, and inflatable activities. Meet an ESO musician and make some music at the ESO's original instrument petting zoo! Instruments are provided in part by the Edmonton Public School Board String Enrichment Program. Grab a hotdog from festival favourite Fat Franks - all proceeds go to support the ESO's education programs.

Let Your Music Shine with Lisa & Linda

This move-along, sing-along performance highlights the music of the great composers of classical music in a colorful and lively circus setting perfect for the young child. Parent/child explorers learn about high and low, fast and slow and other age-appropriate musical concepts through storytelling and audience participation in each moment of this performance.

Committed to "inspiring the unlimited potential of every child through music", award-winning composers and producers Lisa Allison and Linda Sebenius combine engaging originals with short music excerpts that include bouncy tunes by Beethoven, melodic movements by Mozart, and the imaginative music of Haydn. Lisa and Linda, along with special instrumental guests, create a magical musical experience which educates, entertains, and inspires the entire family.

Lisa Grace Allison and Linda Sebenius are sisters, music educators, composers, and the creators of Let Your Music Shine!™ with Lisa & Linda. With over 350 Tiny Tots shows in the last 10 years with the Seattle Symphony and the Vancouver Symphony, their mission is "to inspire the unlimited potential of every child through music.” During this time, they have also produced multiple award-winning DVDs and CDs that have become favourites for many children. In all of their work, Lisa and Linda introduce young audiences to the world of music through original tunes and child-sized arrangements of classical favourites.

Lisa G. Allison (M.A. Music Education) coordinates staging, set design, and costuming for all live performances. She is founder and director of LGMusic Voice/Performance Studio. Lisa has also been an Elementary Music Specialist for the Lake Washington School District for over 10 years. Linda Sebenius (B.A. Music Theory/Composition) makes the magic of classical music come alive for the youngest listener. Linda orchestrates Lisa and Linda’s original work for both classical and world music instrumentation. As a composer, Linda’s original works were featured in the 2003 and 2005 New Works/New Hope concerts to benefit Gilda’s Club. Linda also scores music for film, and won a Neil Shipman award for the hilarious short film Pandemonium.

Steve Lippia has become one of the most prominent, in-demand vocalists and has quickly established his place among the finest interpreters of “standards” and traditional pop music in the nation. Steve's youthful, energetic talent and powerful show creates a perfect blend of “classic” with “today”. His show introduces a new generation to this timeless music, while appealing to long-time listeners.

Steve has headlined in highly successful, extended engagements at the Rio Suites Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and Resorts Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, where SRO audiences lined up more than two hours before show time to vie for seating. He has performed in multiple engagements for Hilton Atlantic City and Casino Windsor, among others.

In addition, Steve has recorded “Steve Lippia Live”, a collection of some of his live performances. His much anticipated third CD, titled “Steve Lippia In Concert”, was released June 16, 2009.

Steve is a native of Southington Connecticut. He makes his home in Las Vegas, Nevada with his wife and 2 miniature German Schnauzers.

Robert Bernhardt, conductor

 

Robert Bernhardt is the second Music Director in the history of the combined Chattanooga Symphony & Opera, and is currently in his 16th season with the company. Concurrent with his CSO tenure, Bernhardt holds the additional title of Principal Pops Conductor of the Louisville Orchestra where he is currently in his 28th season. He began his professional career there in 1981 as Assistant Conductor, and has worked with the Orchestra every year since. He was the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Rochester Philharmonic (1995-98), Music Director and Conductor of the Tucson Symphony (1987-95), Principal Guest Conductor of Kentucky Opera (1991-96), and Music Director of the Amarillo Symphony Orchestra (1985-1987). His vast symphonic repertoire covers most of the standard canon and his commitment to the music of our time is significant.

 

This season, Robert Bernhardt will make his guest conducting debut with the Houston Symphony, and returns to the podiums of the Pacific Symphony, Tucson Symphony, and the Chattanooga Ballet. He has guest conducted the Detroit, St. Louis, Seattle, Phoenix, Nashville, Colorado, Pacific and Iceland Symphony Orchestras among others, and has been a frequent guest with the Pittsburgh Symphony, the Tucson Symphony, and the Boston Pops. He made his Carnegie Hall debut in 1978. In addition to his work with the CSO, he has conducted the Opera Companies of Nashville and Birmingham. He has also conducted the Louisville Ballet, the North Carolina Ballet, the Jacksonville Ballet and the Lonestar Ballet. Born in Rochester, NY, Robert Bernhardt holds a Master's Degree with Honors from the University of Southern California School of Music where he studied with Daniel Lewis. He was a Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude graduate of Union (NY) College, where he was an Academic All-American Baseball Player.

Since making his ESO debut in May 2006, Robert Bernhardt has become a favourite guest conductor of both the orchestra and its audience. The 2009 Sobeys Symphony Under the Sky is the fourth consecutive edition of the festival led by Mr. Bernhardt. He will conduct several more performances in the 09/10 season, including Oktoberfest! on October 6, 2009, Our Favourite Mozart on October 8, 2009, and Classics of the Silver Screen on May 20, 2010.
