Details

Canada's gold-selling vocal group the Canadian Tenors have this year alone performed at the Winter Games in Vancouver, appeared as guests on The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Dr. Phil Show, and enjoyed a successful 80-city North American tour. They return to the Winspear stage to share music from their best-selling holiday album, The Perfect Gift.

canadian tenorsThe Canadian Tenors’ music is an exciting blend of classical and contemporary pop that is thrilling audiences of all ages around the world. After a whirlwind year, the Tenors are truly excited to be home in Canada for the holiday season. Over the past two years they have toured over 150 cities. Their self-titled debut album has been certified Platinum in Canada and their holiday album The Perfect Gift went Gold in just three weeks. The Tenors have crisscrossed the globe thrilling millions of music lovers, receiving rave reviews and standing ovations from the Tel Aviv Opera house where they shared the stage with Andrea Bocelli; to Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Coliseum and New York’s Madison Square Garden; to Toronto’s Air Canada Centre where they headlined at One Night Live with Sting and Sheryl Crow; to London with the legendary Paul McCartney at the Old Vic theatre gala. They recently returned from an Asian tour, which took them to Tokyo, Singapore Jakarta and more, with David Foster, Natalie Cole and others.
 
Currently, the Tenors’ hit PBS special is airing across North America, and their first CBC holiday special (with Paul Anka and David Foster) will air on December 13th at 9 pm and again on Christmas day at 7 pm. They have performed on NBC’s Shall We Dance On Ice and CBC’s Holiday Festival On Ice airing around the world. The Tenors have also been named the Canadian Ambassadors for Toronto’s 2015 Pan Am Games, having written and performed the theme song. Watch for them in 2011 as they continue touring the world and they release their heavily anticipated sophomore studio album. 
 
The Tenors last appeared with the ESO in December 2009.

Lucas Waldin, conductor

Lucas Waldin

The 2010/11 season marks the second for Lucas Waldin as Resident Conductor for the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. This mentorship position is made possible through the Canada Council for the Arts and Enbridge. Mr. Waldin graduated in 2006 from the Cleveland Institute of Music with a Masters in Conducting. He has performed with L'Orchestre du Festival Beaulieu-Sur-Mer (Monaco), Staatstheater Cottbus (Brandenburg), and Bachakademie Stuttgart. Lucas was assistant conductor of the contemporary orchestra RED (Cleveland), director of the Cleveland Bach Consort, and a Discovery Series Conductor at the Oregon Bach Festival. In 2007, he was invited to conduct the Miami-based New World Symphony Orchestra in masterclasses given by Michael Tilson Thomas. In Lucerne in 2009, he also participated in a masterclass led by Bernard Haitink, with the Lucerne Festival Strings.

A native of Toronto, Lucas Waldin has spent summers studying in Europe, including studies at the International Music Academy in Leipzig, the Bayreuth Youth Orchestra, and the Acanthes New Music Festival in France. On this continent, he has studied under the renowned Bach conductor Helmut Rilling at the Oregon Bach Festival, and has attended conducting masterclasses with the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra in Toronto. Mr. Waldin received a Bachelor of Music degree in flute performance from the Cleveland Institute, studying with Joshua Smith.
