Edith Stacey began her musical pursuits in Saskatoon. Well-meaning parents bought her a clarinet, but after the family moved to Halifax, Edith stumbled upon the bassoon and has never recovered her senses. Formal studies began at Dalhousie University in Halifax and after transferring to the University of Toronto, Edith completed the requirements for a Bachelor of Music in Performance. Before finishing her degree, she secured a position with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony. She has performed extensively as an orchestral musician, chamber player and soloist in Southwestern Ontario and Western New York. Edith first appeared with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra for the 1989-90 season as a sabbatical replacement. She was asked to return for two more sabbaticals and was delighted to become a permanent member of the ESO in 1996.
